Rodrigo Blankenship receives roster decision from Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per report
Rodrigo Blankenship, a former Georgia kicker and fan favorite, has been cut from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster, per a report from Field Yates.
The 5th-year place kicker signed with the Bucs after a successful tryout in June, but his tenure with Tampa Bay didn’t make it into the regular season. In the Bucs’ preseason game against the New York Jets Saturday, Blankenship was 1-for-3 on field goal attempts.
Blankenship has struggled to get on a roster since the Indianapolis Colts cut him at the beginning of last season. He was cut just days after missing a game-winning field goal in the Colts’ season-opening tie with the Houston Texans.
Blankenship suffered a season-ending hip surgery in 2021 that limited him to just 5 games. He went on to join the Arizona Cardinals practice team and was elevated to the main roster, but was later waived because of an injury.
Since he came into the league in 2020, the former Georgia star has made 48 of his 58 field goals (with a long of 53 yards) and 55 of his 59 extra points.
