Ryan Grubb already knew what he had in Ryan Coleman-Williams, the Alabama wideout sensation who took college football by storm in 2024 before having a bit of a sophomore jinx last season.

The Crimson Tide offensive coordinator presided over that slide that Coleman-Williams suffered in 2025, when dropped passes, a lack of targets and a dip in receiving yards and touchdown catches made the guy then named Ryan Williams a bit of a letdown. But then the weapon took matters into his own hands this offseason, changing his name to honor his mother and changing his number from 2 to 1 as a sort of reset that would help get him ready for the 2026 season.

And judging by what Grubb said about his star weapon on Monday as fall camp continued, the now Coleman-Williams has put last season behind him and is running circles around people as the season opener against East Carolina approaches on Sept. 5. Grubb said Coleman-Williams is flat out having an “unbelievable” fall camp.

“Lucky to coach the kid. He’s just an absolute wonder,” Grubb said.

The offensive coordinator has seen growth in the young man who’s still only 19 in every way possible, and it’s all about Coleman-Williams’ amazing preparation during the summer, too.

“His growth as a person, as a player, his preparation is second to nobody on this football team,” Grubb said. “Couldn’t be more proud of that guy.”

Coleman-Williams will be front and center in Alabama’s attack as the Crimson Tide try to get back to the SEC title game this fall. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about Bama’s chances to break through and capture the SEC championship in December:
