Alabama coach Nick Saban finished third in the university’s SGA presidential election that took place Tuesday, AL.com reported.
Elliot Spillers won the historic election with 8,602 votes, becoming the first black president of Alabama’s SGA since the 1970s. Saban got just six votes as a write-in candidate, so if anything it’s surprising that the football coach didn’t come closer to being elected in football-is-king Tuscaloosa.
According to AL.com, Blake Sims, Derrick Henry, JK Scott, and Rashaan Evans, “fire Anthony Grant” and “Sick Nabin” also picked up votes.

Saban also picked up 12 votes in the vice president of academic affairs race, four for VP of student affairs, 11 for Executive VP, and 10 for executive secretary.
Amari Cooper, Lane Kiffin, Big Al, Kenyan Drake, Kirby Smart, Bill Battle, Da’Shawn Hand, Scott Cochran, Reggie Ragland, “The Bear,” and a “A Potted Plant” also received write-in votes in other races.
Back in 2009, then-football star Julio Jones was elected to the student senate with write-in votes.
