“Saban” took a dive as baby name in Alabama for 2015

We all know how much Alabama fans worship winning coaches.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Paul W. Bryant Museum has recorded 620 babies named after the Bear.

When Nick Saban came to Tuscaloosa in 2007, two babies were named after him. Since then, there have been 18 more babies with his namesake.

What’s remarkable about this trend is that Tuscaloosa County itself has been mostly untouched. Only one child bore Saban’s name, and that child’s middle name was Bryant.

The Tide’s loss to Ohio State in the first CFP semifinals seemed to have dissuaded some fans, because for the first year since Saban arrived, no child was named for him.

Even “Nicholas” was used less in 2015.

You have to wonder if a win over Clemson will give the Saban naming trend new life. Only time will tell.
