The weeks are winding down in this college football season, which means that when a team loses, especially at home, it will stick in fans’ collective craw a little longer.
For instance, Auburn took a 28-3 lead on Mississippi State, only to let the Bulldogs rally for a win. It was the biggest squandered lead in an SEC game ever for the Tigers:

The Auburn faithful had a hard time processing what they saw in the second half:

The fact that Auburn no longer controls its fate in the SEC West is cause for consternation:

This type of scenario seems tailor-made for the Air Raid scheme:

… but not for the Auburn defense, at least not on this day:

Meanwhile, in Gainesville, Florida hung 70 points on FCS foe Samford as Emory Jones passed for 6 touchdowns. So all is right again in Gatorland, right? Well …

Not so much. There was the small matter of Florida trailing 42-35 at halftime, the most points UF has surrendered in a half — ever. There was the small matter of Samford scoring 52 points, the most by an FCS team ever against an SEC opponent. And this wreck (albeit a win) came after coach Dan Mullen fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and another assistant.
Tennessee fell to Georgia after briefly giving Vols fans a reason to believe by taking a 7-0 lead early:

In fact, the Vols and Dawgs were tied 10-10 early in the second quarter before UT fans watched Georgia take over:

But that UT loss was expected. Another UT loss, in Austin? Not so much.

Texas. somehow, lost to Kansas. That’s a Jayhawks program that came in 1-8 but, more to the point, had lost 18 consecutive Big 12 games:

That #SurrenderCobra was well-earned. Check out Kansas’ history against Texas (mind you, these teams have been in the Big 12 together since the mid 1990s):

But Kansas prevailed in overtime in Austin, giving Texas a 5-game losing streak for the first time since 1956. And KU snapped a 56-game road losing streak in conference play dating to 2008:

And, yes, after Kansas won, some fans (presumably Jayhawks enthusiasts) could faintly be heard on TV chanting “SEC! SEC! SEC!” at the future SEC program in Austin. Now that is sad for the burnt orange bunch.
