During Cupcake Week, the sadness level around the SEC is lower than usual. That’s natural in a week when five SEC teams play FCS level opponents.
And there were no upsets to be had — all five league teams who faced FCS foes won by at least 38 points.
Only three SEC teams lost on Saturday, all in conference games, and none of the results were surprising.
Still, Arkansas fans came prepared for their bad mood at LSU, and their pessimism was warranted:

In Athens, Texas A&M once again put up a good fight but lost at Georgia:

And Missouri had a bit of an attendance drop for its game against Tennessee, which the Vols won in a tight one:

A Pac-12 result actually had pretty big impact for SEC hopefuls vying for a College Football Playoff berth, as Oregon’s stunning loss at Arizona State brought out the Surrender Cobra and helped SEC teams (Read: Alabama). The Ducks pretty much fell out of the CFP race:

Sad times in Eugene indeed:

Arizona State fans went through some kind of feelings, too:

But in the end, Oregon’s logo has a lot in common with its chances of winning a national title now:

In the TCU-Oklahoma game, the Sooners barely hung on, bringing out an on-field #SurrenderCobra by the Horned Frogs:

The Big Ten West Division title race will come down to Minnesota against Wisconsin next week. And Golden Gophers coach P.J. Fleck will get his wish (albeit a couple of weeks later than he had lobbied for) when ESPN’s College GameDay will visit the Twin Cities. We promise this is the only time we will foist this meme on you. It was funny the first 367 times we saw it, but maybe you’re not burned out on it yet:

Apart from Oregon losing, probably the biggest upset of the weekend was Florida International defeating Miami. Texas gets knocked around for claiming “we were back” last year then laying an egg this year. But did y’all notice the noise coming from Hurricanes fans after 2017, for their one 10-win season in the past 15 years since the program joined the ACC? Yeah, now not so much:
Miami lost to FIU ???? HOW ABOUT THEM CANES @AndrewjFleming5

Seems some folks enjoyed the heck out of FIU’s first win ever over a Power 5 team:

Or maybe they just enjoyed FIU coach Butch Davis beating his old team:

It couldn’t have anything to do with insufferable Hurricanes fans (such that they exist), now could it?

Nah, that would be just poor form. (LOL!)
See you next week, when the regular-season sadness reaches its final act.
