Florida had a chance at SEC East supremacy slip through its fingers on Saturday as No. 8 Georgia won their huge rivalry game in Jacksonville, 24-17.
It was a moment of anguish for Gators fans and a memorable #SurrenderCobra twist:

Give the young lady credit, she owned the meme-worthy moment on her Twitter account (or claimed somebody else’s, which would be really weird):
I finally make it on TV and it’s because of the anguish of the FL/GA game https://t.co/FRfur6Tfu5

Yep, it was a tough day for Florida fans:

Gator Nation was plenty mad about a controversial officiating decision that turned out to be crucial …

… and pretty salty toward their archrivals:

Meanwhile, Georgia fans were content to simply gloat, and probably book their tickets for the SEC Championship Game in December:

But no matter how bitter this rivalry gets, there is always time for man’s best friend:

Elsewhere in the SEC, Auburn made it tough sledding against Ole Miss, escaping a scare in the final minute:

In the end, Rebels fans were the ones bemoaning their lot in life the most:
It hurts so bad to be an Ole Miss fan. So close, yet so far. Why do you do this to us ?

Outside of the SEC, Nebraska, ranked in the Top 25 in the preseason, fell under .500 with a loss at woeful Purdue. At least one Cornhuskers fan connected on social media with an SEC fan whose program also used to be relevant in the 1990s:

Were there a lot of Vols fans watching the Nebraska game for some reason? UT fans, you clobbered a decent Conference USA team, UAB. Go celebrate!

Speaking of the SEC and Big Ten, Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck made an impassioned plea last week for ESPN’s College GameDay to come to Minneapolis on Nov. 9 when his unbeaten Golden Gophers host unbeaten Penn State. Not a bad idea, coach — on a lot of other Saturdays. But this coming Saturday is not just another Saturday:

The ESPN crew got ready for what is sure to be an epic atmosphere in Tuscaloosa by visiting Memphis this weekend for the American Athletic Conference clash between two ranked teams, SMU and Memphis. Noted Memphis resident and pro wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler dropped by the set and looked like he was about to throw down with Lee Corso after the former coach tossed aside the Tigers mascot head and donned the SMU Mustangs head instead. Added kudos to whoever on the Memphis Commercial Appeal staff properly recognized Corso’s act as, in in pro wrestling parlance, a “heel” moment:

The Tigers-Mustangs game turned out to be a great one, with Memphis winning, but not before upsetting this guy a bit:

Air Force’s social media department had fun at Army’s expense after the Falcons beat the Black Knights on Saturday:

Finally, we end on a modified Surrender Cobra at the USC game. What’s odd about this scene is that there are three women shown, but two of them are either not affected or are unprepared at this early stage for how badly Oregon went on to trounce the Trojans in Los Angeles:

The one fan who was sad was truly sad, you have to give her that much. Such is the state of USC football nowadays, which is why you hear Urban Meyer rumors floating around. And wouldn’t that make college football fans feel some kind of way?
