Alabama and Georgia put on a display on Saturday, proving why they are the top two teams in the SEC. The Dawgs lost, but Georgia fans can take solace in two things: One, everyone in the East has at least one loss, so everything that UGA wants to achieve is still on the table. Two, the Dawgs are unlikely to take much damage in the rankings or, more important, in the eyes of the College Football Playoff committee.
Or, maybe UGA fans won’t find these thoughts that comforting:

But Tennessee and Auburn fans have no such thoughts to comfort themselves.
Tennessee and Auburn went into Saturday’s SEC play ranked, but neither looked the part. They have to be the two saddest fanbases in the SEC this weekend after the Vols got blown out at home by Kentucky and the Tigers were upset by South Carolina.

Some were prepared to see Vols fans experience ennui even before the game started:

Kentucky’s defense gave its fans plenty of reasons to enjoy UT’s sadness:

Auburn saw its ranking punctured by the loss to the Gamecocks.

And as if all of this weren’t enough, a pretty fair-sized chunk of the fanbases throughout the SEC were also dealing with the Braves losing on Saturday as the Dodgers forced Game 7 in the National League Championship Series:

Arkansas (well, somebody running its social media account) enjoyed taking down Ole Miss and wrecking the Lane Train:

Elsewhere around the country, No. 5 North Carolina fell from the ranks of the unbeaten by losing at unranked Florida State:

Speaking of this mighty pose — with the Big Ten finally getting underway next week, it’s time to look back five years this week at a great moment in #SurrenderCobra history:

And finally, in a crazy year in which college football has faced delays all over and some conferences still haven’t started, all hail Dickinson State in Dickinson, S.D., the only 6-0 college football team in the country on any level:
