Sam Pittman clarifies run-game frustrations after Week 1

Sam Pittman didn’t like what he saw from the run game in Arkansas’ Week 1 win over Western Carolina.

While he was happy with the offense as a whole he would’ve liked to see have some bigger plays than it did.

“I was frustrated really in the run game simply because we didn’t have any explosive runs,” Pittman said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “I think we had a couple. I just felt like we could’ve been more efficient running the ball.”

But ultimately Pittman is just glad to have seen the offense scoring the ball well, whether that was from the run or the pass game. He just hopes to get his team more balanced as the season goes on.

“To answer your question, I don’t care if we run it at all if we score as often and as fast as we were throwing the football,” Pittman said. “But at some point in there, I wanted to turn around and be able to be more physical, strain more than what we did and I know if the safety makes the play, he makes the play. I think I was more frustrated after the game than I was after I watched the tape, to be honest with you.”

Arkansas will take on Kent State this Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
