If it seems like Arkansas has a lot of captains going out for the coin toss, it’s because they do.

Arkansas decided to go with 6 captains for the season, while most teams generally have 4 or 5. Razorbacks’ head coach Sam Pittman explained why Arkansas had so many captains in his press conference Monday.

Pittman said that the votes for captain were so close that he saw it fit to have more than usual.

“There were a few that were high in votes. The rest of them were about the same,” Pittman said. “So I decided to go with 6 this year. I think we’ve gone maybe 5 one year. It was so close that I didn’t want to be the guy that made the decision on one vote here or there, whether you couldn’t become a captain or not.”

The captains, which will be KJ Jefferson, Brady Latham, Rocket Sanders, Landon Jackson, Trajan Jeffcoat and Cam Little, are voted on by team members.

“The team selected them. We don’t have any influence on them,” Pittman said. “We’re not in the locker room, we’re not with everyday outside of football, the weight room, how they work, the accountability.”
