QBElite Scouting Services director Charles Fishbein thinks 4-star quarterback prospect Feleipe Franks could see the field for Florida as early as the 2016 opening day.
Fishbein directs one of the largest scouting services in the nation that has a half dozen SEC clients and over 100 clients nationally. He’s the chief talent evaluator for prospects in the southeast.
Franks, a 6-foot-6, 222-pound pro style passer from Crawfordville, Fla., recently committed to the Florida Gators after spending over a year being committed to the LSU Tigers.
He went 12-of-18 for 179 yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s Class 5A state championship game where his Wakulla War Eagles lost 37-34 to the Bishop Moore Hornets.
Despite the loss Fishbein was impressed with what he saw out of Franks.
“I’m not too familiar with Luke Del Rio, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Franks is the best quarterback in the program when he steps on campus,” Fishbein said. “He’s a good fit for the system that Jim McElwain want to run because he can sit in the pocket at throw the ball.”
Fishbein was mostly impressed with Franks’ arm-strength but said his accuracy is a concern. Franks has averaged completing around 56 percent of his passes in his three years as a high school starter. Fishbein says Franks will need to work on his speed control.
“The one thing I notice about quarterbacks with big arms is that they struggle throwing short passes because they don’t know how to take some of the heat off the pass,” Fishbein said. “Jamarcus Russell had a great deep ball but struggled with his short passes. That’s something Franks will have to work on because the most successful quarterbacks can pick a defense apart with short and intermediate passing.”
