SEC announces Week 1 Players of the Week

Besides the great array of games in Week 1, a couple of players also shined to kick off the 2017 college football season.

The SEC announced Tuesday morning the conference players of the week from Week 1. These student athletes stood out amongst the many great performances.

There might not have been a better display than Drew Lock’s phenomenal play against Missouri State, earning him SEC offensive player of the week. He threw a SEC record-tying seven touchdowns in his first game of the the season. The crazy stat, he only threw the ball 34 times.

Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton was named SEC defensive player of the week. Hamilton exploded against Florida State with a team-high eight tackles and collected three sacks during the course of the game.

Deebo Samuel was named SEC special teams player of the week for his timely play against NC State. The South Carolina wide receiver returned the opening kickoff to the house and accumulated 185 all-purpose yards.

Arkansas running back Chase Hayden earned freshman player of the week, gaining 120 yards on the ground during his first game. LSU offensive guard Garrett Brumfield allowed no sacks during his first career start, leading to the SEC offensive lineman of the week reward. Kentucky defensive lineman Denzil Ware forced two fumbles and recovered one on his way to SEC defensive lineman of the week.
