Week 3: SEC attendance figures include record crowd and fuzzy math

The biggest crowd ever to watch a football game in the state of Mississippi was on hand for Saturday’s key SEC West showdown between Ole Miss and visiting Alabama, but it wasn’t enough as the Crimson Tide pulled away for a thrilling 48-43 decision at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Conversely, an announced (ahem!) crowd of just 41,916 bothered to make it to Atlanta’s Bobby Dodd Stadium to see Vanderbilt and host Georgia Tech tangle. To those who don’t already know, the “announced crowd” simply reflects the number of tickets distributed to the game. To say there were actually that many fans at Bobby Dodd Stadium might be wishful thinking.

Kentucky had similar issues, though perhaps the rain played a role?

Here’s a look at all the Week 3 attendance figures from around the SEC.
