SEC Championship Game led all conferences in TV viewers, in-person attendance for 2021

The SEC Championship Game in 2021 featured 2 of the best teams in the country, as Alabama took down Georgia in Atlanta.

Of course, Georgia would get its revenge a couple of weeks later, beating the Crimson Tide in Indianapolis to claim the College Football Playoff title.

But, back to December in Atlanta. Fans flocked to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and also tuned in on TV. Per Brett McMurphy, the SEC title tilt led all major conference championship games in TV viewership and in-person attendance last season:

The ACC not having Clemson, Florida, Miami or North Carolina in the title game seemed to hurt TV viewership. The game was watched by only 2.7 million people, ranking it last among college football’s 6 biggest conferences. Meanwhile, the AAC matchup between Cincinnati and Houston drew the fewest in-person fans, with 37,398 attending the game.

Will the SEC continue its dominance again in 2022? If both Alabama and Georgia advance to Atlanta once again, it should be another highly anticipated game.
