SEC Championship tickets dip in resale market, but still tops in title games

Saturday’s SEC Championship Game between Alabama and Florida (4 p.m. ET, CBS) is officially a sellout, but tickets are always available on the resell market.
But while the SEC title game is still the most expensive ticket of championship games set for Saturday, the prices are falling a bit.
The average price for a ticket in the Georgia Dome on Saturday is a little more than $365, and the cheapest tickets available are going for $165.
According to Forbes, the average price is “down 46.8 percent from the $686.53 average on November 8, the day after Florida clinched its berth in Atlanta.”
The Gators haven’t exactly been inspiring since then, with narrow wins over South Carolina and Florida Atlantic before last week’s loss at home to Florida State. That, and the 17.5-point spread, are depressing ticket prices for neutrals — the sort of people that buy up tickets late on the resell market instead of buying them through a school.
At this time last year, a few days before Alabama defeated Missouri in the 2014 SEC Championship Game, the average ticket price was $342.50, and the cheapest ticket was $112.
In 2013, Auburn knocked off Missouri, 59-42, in the championship game. In the days leading up to that contest, the average ticket price was $338, and the lowest priced ticket was $202.
These are much lower prices than the three years prior to 2013, as you can see by the chart below (information courtesy of Forbes/TiqIQ):
Year | Match-up | Average ticket price |
2010 | South Carolina vs. Auburn | $669.00 |
2011 | Georgia vs. LSU | $440.00 |
2012 | Georgia vs. Alabama | $602.00 |
So, if you’re buying a ticket, be glad it isn’t 2010. Auburn and Alabama parlayed wins in the 2010 and 2012 title games to national championships, as you may recall.
If you’re planning on going to the game, here is the official information on parking and the general stadium rules.
