Coaches come and coaches go. Keeping track of all the movement can be a huge pain, so we’ve compiled a list of all the comings and goings of SEC coaching staffs right here.
As of now, here is how things stand:
ALABAMA
- Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has accepted the head coaching position at Georgia. Alabama has hired Jeremy Pruitt as its new defensive coordinator.
ARKANSAS
- Offensive line coach Sam Pittman will leave Arkansas for the same position at Georgia.
AUBURN
- Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has accepted the head coaching position at South Carolina. Auburn has named linebackers coach Lance Thompson the interim defensive coordinator.
- Defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson will leave Auburn for the defensive coordinator position at South Carolina.
GEORGIA
- Mark Richt was fired at the end of the season. Kirby Smart, former Alabama defensive coordinator, will replace Richt as head coach.
Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt will leave Georgia for the same position at Alabama. - Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will not return to Georgia. Jim Chaney, former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Pittsburgh, will replace Schottenheimer.
- Offensive line coach Rob Sale will not return. Sam Pittman, former offensive line coach at Arkansas, will replace Sale.
- Glenn Schumann, former consultant to Nick Saban and coordinators at Alabama, has joined Smart’s staff with an unspecified assistant coach position.
LSU
- Running backs coach Frank Wilson is a finalist in the search for Tulane’s next head coach.
MISSISSIPPI STATE
- Assistant head coach and safeties coach Tony Hughes has been named the head coach of Jackson State.
MISSOURI
- Gary Pinkel retired at the end of the season. Barry Odom, the Tigers’ defensive coordinator, was promoted to the head coaching position.
- Offensive coordinator Josh Henson will not return to Missouri. Josh Heupel, current Utah State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, is rumored to be the most probable replacement for Henson.
- Offensive line coach A.J. Ricker will not return.
- Many other coaches from the Pinkel era are expected to be out of jobs very soon, although so far nothing has been made concrete.
SOUTH CAROLINA
- After Steve Spurrier resigned earlier this season, offensive line coach Shawn Elliott assumed the interim head coaching position. Will Muschamp will replace Elliott as the official head coach.
- Elliot will remain on staff as the offensive line coach.
- Kurt Roper, who has spent the past year as a consultant for the Cleveland Browns, will be the new offensive coordinator.
- Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward will not return to South Carolina. Travaris Robinson, a former defensive backs coach at Auburn who coached with Muschamp, will replace Ward.
- Running backs coach Everette Sands will not return. Bobby Bentley will replace Sands.
- Strength and conditioning coach Joe Connolly will not return. Jeff Dillman will replace Connolly.
- Ellis Johnson, who has held defensive coordinator positions at South Carolina and Auburn, will join Muschamp’s staff. He currently has an unspecified defensive role.
- Many other coaches are expected to be out of jobs very soon, but nothing concrete has been announced.
TENNESSEE
- Tight ends/specials teams coach Mark Elder will leave Tennessee for the head coaching position at Eastern Kentucky.
VANDERBILT
- Special teams coordinator and running backs coach Charles Bankins will not return to Vanderbilt.
- Offensive line coach Keven Lightner will not return.
