Colorado State put the college football world on notice Saturday — including Alabama.

In its opener against Oregon State, Colorado State walloped the visitors 58-27. It appeared the game would be a competitive affair, as the Rams led 24-20 at the half. But in the final 20 minutes, they poured it on their Pac-12 foe, outscoring the Beavers 34-7.

Colorado State now turns its attention to arch-rival Colorado, which it will face next week in Denver. But the following week is where Alabama must be wary, as it welcomes Colorado State to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Sept. 16.

The last time the two teams played, the Crimson Tide routed the Rams 31-6 in 2013. Jim McElwain was Colorado State’s head coach at the time, fresh off serving as Alabama’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2008-11.

Will Friend, now the Rams’ offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, was a four-year starter at guard for the Crimson Tide in the 1990s and earned All-SEC honors twice. Friend was named to Alabama’s Team of the Decade for the 1990s.

Of course, Alabama isn’t the only SEC school Colorado State has connections with.

Head coach Mike Bobo is a former Georgia quarterback and worked for his alma mater under Mark Richt from 2001-14. Bobo was initially hired as Georgia’s quarterbacks coach before adding the title of offensive coordinator in 2007.

When Bobo took over Colorado State in 2015, he brought Friend with him. Friend was the Bulldogs’ offensive line coach from 2011-14.

Twitter was sure impressed with Bobo:
