The SEC is still the only conference in the country with a winning record against other Power 4 programs. The win-loss records are hardly comparable, too.
As pointed out by On3’s Brett McMurphy on Sunday, the SEC is currently 10-2 against Power 4 opponents. The Big 12 comes in 2nd place at 5-7, followed by the ACC (6-9) and the Big Ten (4-9).
Vanderbilt and Alabama added to the SEC’s total this week with wins over NC State and Florida State, respectively. The only losses the SEC has taken against Power 4 opponents this season are Oklahoma‘s loss to Michigan and Arkansas‘ loss to Utah, both in Week 2.
Of course, Vanderbilt needed a bit of a miracle to take down NC State and improve the SEC’s record on Saturday. Wolfpack quarterback CJ Bailey had a lapse in judgement in the end zone, refusing to go down for a safety as Vanderbilt’s Miles Capers stripped the football out of his grip for a Commodores touchdown with 1 second remaining.
Not many SEC/P4 matchups remain this season. The next matchup (s) between an SEC program and another P4 team will take place in Rivalry Week: South Carolina at Clemson, Georgia Tech at Georgia, Louisville at Kentucky and Florida at Florida State.
