SEC officials have discussed allowing alcohol to be sold at sporting events to the general public. Still, permitting such sales appear to be far away.

It’s possible that beer and other alcoholic beverages like wine could be available for all spectators at games in the future. Alcohol already can be bought in premium seating areas at some locations, but talks continue about whether such drink options should be made more widely available.

“There are different perspectives,” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey told SEC Country.

As a one-year experiment, the NCAA has approved beer and wine to be sold this year in general seating areas at the College World Series and the Women’s College World Series. You can bet the results will be tracked closely.

“We’ll continue to talk about what might be happening with some baseball circumstances, and see if we need to engage in some additional clarification,” Sankey said. “But no wholesale conversation about selling beer in some stadiums.”
