We’ve made it to the Third Saturday in October. Alabama and Tennessee will continue their rivalry, but another conference clash has claimed an even bigger national spotlight on Saturday.
No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Georgia are in the national spotlight for a primetime showdown that will air on ABC. The College GameDay crew traveled to Austin to preview the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Longhorns since the “we’re baaaaaack” Sugar Bowl game in January 2019. The only blemish on UGA’s record is the 1-score loss at Alabama, while Steve Sarkisian’s squad is among college football’s unbeaten teams.
Alabama at Tennessee is the SEC’s other matchup of 2 ranked teams for Saturday. The No. 7 Crimson Tide and No. 11 Volunteers are fighting to avoid a second loss as we inch closer to the postseason. This year, the calendar cooperates with the Third Saturday in October rivalry.
Auburn and Missouri kick things off in the early window. Hugh Freeze’s team is hoping to end a 3-game losing streak. No. 19 Mizzou got back on track in Week 7 with a road win at UMass.
The early window also features South Carolina at Oklahoma. It’s a return to Norman for Shane Beamer, who served as a Sooner assistant before becoming the head coach of the Gamecocks.
Texas A&M plays at Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon. First-year coaches Mike Elko and Jeff Lebby are having very different experiences. Texas A&M started the year 0-1, but is on a 5-game winning streak to claim to No. 14 in the AP Poll. Mississippi State won its season-opener, but has dropped the last 5 games, including 3 in SEC play.
The SEC West is no more, but The Battle for the Golden Boot lives on. Arkansas hosts No. 8 LSU for a night game in Fayetteville.
Vanderbilt is taking a break from SEC play, hosting Ball State for a night game in Nashville. The Commodores will hope to get in a tuneup before hosting Texas.
The final kickoff of the night comes from Gainesville, as Florida hosts Kentucky. The Wildcats and Gators played annually as SEC East foes, with UK on a 3-game winning streak in the series.
