Here’s everything you need to know about the matchup between Louisiana Tech and Auburn today on the SEC Network.

When: Today

Game Buzz: It’s Homecoming on the Plains as Skip Holtz’s Louisiana Tech team comes to town. Auburn looks to correct mistakes after a close road win over Kansas State in Week 4 before embarking on a stretch in which it play seven ranked opponents in its final nine games. LA Tech defensive coordinator Manny Diaz had success containing Gus Malzahn’s offense the last time he saw it as Mississippi State defensive coordinator in 2010.

Saturday Down South previews

Auburn Tigers

Players to watch:

  • QB Nick Marshall
  • RB Cameron Artis-Payne
  • WR Sammie Coates
  • LB Cassanova McKinzy
  • LB Kris Frost
  • DB Josh Holsey

Keys for Auburn:

  • Show improvement after last week’s exposure. K-State showed vulnerabilities in the Tigers’ rushing attack and defense. Auburn coaches challenged the team this week in practice, and according to media reports the team responded with great practices. The schedule gets much tougher starting next week, so this week’s matchup is vital for Auburn to show improvement.
  • Do what do you. Auburn had to rely on the arm of Nick Marshall to win the game, but don’t let that stray you from the run first. The Tigers should have no trouble running the football against the Bulldogs and that will be the anchor of its success moving forward.

Tigers’ glaring weakness to watch: Auburn had a few issues with the talented receivers of Kansas State, and LA Tech has talent at receiver highlighted by receiver Sterling Griffin. How aggressive will the Tigers play?

Most interesting part of the game: How long does Malzahn and company keep the starters in? The game should be in grasp by early the third quarter, so it’ll be interesting to watch how early Malzahn turns to the bench and how deep he goes.

Team Buzz: Don’t panic, Auburn fans. Malzahn and his staff surely aren’t. He told reporters this week that “we’re not sounding any big alarm or anything.” Look for the Tigers to focus on execution on Saturday afternoon.
