As we move through the 2016 football season, we’ll be giving a rundown of each SEC team’s penalty statistics at the conclusion of each week’s games.
With it being Week 2, it’s hard to correlate penalty data with whether or not it affects a team’s ability to win. As it turns out, the SEC’s least-penalized teams in Ole Miss and Kentucky had very different outcomes this past week as the Rebels prevailed pretty easily while Kentucky was beaten by 38 points.
Alabama earned that honor with a league-high 12 flags. But something tells us that Nick Saban is mad about much more than that following the Crimson Tide’s 38-10 victory over Western Kentucky.
Bama was the only SEC team that had double-digit penalties during this second week of game play, and Missouri had the next-most with eight. Eight of the 14 teams were able to keep their penalty yardage under 50.
