With the 2015 NFL draft now in the books, the SEC’s total number of draftees in the last 10 years (since the 2006 draft) is up to 449 total players.
The conference’s most prominent position as far as NFL talent produced has been cornerback, as the SEC has had 61 corners drafted since 2006. Wide receiver, linebacker and tailback were also loaded with NFL talent, producing at least 50 NFL draftees apiece at each position group. The SEC’s offensive lines produced 72 draftees since 2006, and its defensive lines produced 89 total NFL prospects.
The conference’s lowest draftee total at one position was quarterback, a position known for its exclusivity in the draft. The SEC did not have a quarterback selected this year, but it had four drafted in 2013, the most its had in any one draft in the last decade.
The SEC also lacked at safety (although it made up for it at cornerback) sending only 19 players to the NFL at that position since 2006. And who said kickers aren’t football players? The SEC has had five drafted just in the last 10 years to round out the conference’s 400-plus draftees in that time.
