SEC softball season starts up next week. The 2025 season will be the SEC’s first with 15 teams, as powerhouse programs Oklahoma and Texas join the sport’s top conference. Vanderbilt does not field a varsity softball program.

One week from Opening Day, the SEC announced the preseason coaches poll. The newcomers make their presence felt, taking Nos. 1 and 3, and grabbing 9 of the 15 first-place votes.

Texas edged Florida for the top spot. The Longhorns received 7 first-place votes, while the Gators grabbed 6 and the Sooners picked up 2.

Oklahoma enters 2025 as 4-time defending national champion. At the 2024 Women’s College World Series, the SEC was well-represented by current and future programs.

Both Oklahoma and Texas had to defeat Florida, the conference tournament champion, to reach the WCWS finals. OU swept the Longhorns 2-0 for the title. Alabama also made the 2024 WCWS.
