LSU remains the SEC’s highest-ranked team in the latest Associated Press and coaches’ polls released Sunday.
The Tigers (5-0) stayed No. 5 in the coaches’ poll and moved up one notch to No. 6 in the AP media rankings.
Ohio State, Baylor, Texas Christian are the top 3 in both polls. The coaches ranked Michigan State fourth followed by LSU. The media ranked Utah fourth and Clemson fifth followed by LSU.
SEC schools dominated the second half of the top 10 and the top of the second 10. Florida was the biggest conference mover, jumping from 11th to eighth in the AP, which ranked Texas A&M ninth, Alabama 10th, and Ole Miss 13th. LSU and Ole Miss moved up one spot while Alabama, the top-ranked one-loss team, dropped two spots after rallying to beat Arkansas.
Ironically, last week Alabama coach Nick Saban chastised Crimson Tide fans critical of close Tide victories.
Texas A&M received a first-place vote from an AP voter.
The coaches placed Alabama ninth, A&M 10th, Florida 11th and Ole Miss 12th.
LSU received a first-place vote from one coach. LSU was also fifth last week. The other four SEC teams moved up one spot.
Georgia, No. 16 in the coaches’ poll and No. 19 in the media voting last week, dropped out of the top 25 in both sets of rankings.
