Well that game got pretty ugly.
Losing Shane Ray was pretty devastating for Missouri, but I don’t think he would’ve made a difference in the outcome.
Blake Sims has been arguably the best quarterback in the country and this Crimson Tide offense is looking unstoppable. I mean, you have coach Lane Kiffin calling touchdowns before Sims even throws the ball. That’s a confident coach, a confident quarterback and a confident offense.
Sims’ confidence is at an all-time high right now and he’s playing out of his mind. To think, just a week ago, people were again calling for backup Jacob Coker to go into the game against Auburn.
Since Kiffin stuck with him and gave him a vote of confidence, Sims has played brilliantly. He’s thrown only 11 incompletions with six touchdown passes in the last two games. That first half against Auburn he had three picks.
So in his last six quarters of playing, he’s only thrown six incompletions. That’s unreal. That’s also what this Lane Kiffin offense is all about. In a West Coast style offense, the quarterback has to make good decisions and be accurate with the ball. Sims has done just that. He and the Crimson Tide offense are playing on a whole different level.
One thing that people don’t really talk about is Sims’ ability to run. I mean the guy was a backup running back a few seasons ago. The zone read-shotgun option worked very well yesterday. That’s a very difficult offense to stop when you have to worry about the ‘Bama running backs running up the middle, Blake Sims running up the middle, and Amari Cooper having a lineman out in front of him on the screen outside.
Defenses have to worry about every single one of those scenarios and game planning for that is very hard. They are going to be very tough to beat the Crimson Tide in this inaugural playoff year.
