Quarterbacks don’t sit on the bench – they transfer.

There’s a trio of proof on display in the SEC this season. West Division contenders Alabama and Ole Miss have transfers starting at quarterback. So does East contender Georgia.

Other positions are represented in the SEC, too. Here’s the top 5 transfers making a difference this season:

QB Chad Kelly, Ole Miss: The nephew of Jim Kelly supplied a missing piece for a talented Rebels team with Laquon Treadwell at receiver, which lost starter Bo Wallace after last season. Kelly has thrown for 2,475 yards and 18 touchdowns with a 65.1 completion percentage. He established himself fast, leading the Rebels to a victory at Alabama. In trouble at Clemson, the junior makes mistakes – on and off the field. He has thrown 10 interceptions.

QB Jake Coker, Alabama: Expected to win the starting job last season, the senior didn’t take over until this season. Though he hasn’t fully justified the hype he received when transferring from Florida State, Coker has been solid with a 63.8 completion percentage, 1,623 yards, 11 TDs and 7 interceptions. Coker has run for 2 TDs.

QB Greyson Lambert, Georgia: Not as heralded by Kelly or Coker as a transfer from Virginia, Lambert has filled the Bulldogs’ need. He was spectacular against South Carolina, setting an NCAA completion record by hitting 24 of 25 passing attempts. He hasn’t been as good throwing downfield against top opponents. For the season, he’s thrown for 1,276 yards and 9 TDs with a 64.1 completion percentage and 2 interceptions.

LB Jake Ganus, Georgia: A transfer from the shut-down UAB program, the inside linebacker leads the Bulldogs with 50 tackles and 2 interceptions from his inside spot. The senior ranked second in Conference USA in tackles last season.

TE Jake McGee, Florida: The senior, a high school quarterback whose leg was shattered at two seasons ago at Virginia, ranks second on the Gators with 23 receptions for 200 yards and 3 TDs.
