See where each SEC school landed in ranking of best American universities
The SEC is one of the most dominant conferences in college football, and it’s not too bad at academics, either.
Every SEC school finished ranked inside the top 176 of the U.S. News & World Report’s best national universities. According to the rankings, schools in the National Universities category “offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and doctoral programs. These colleges are also committed to producing groundbreaking research.”
Vanderbilt was the highest-ranked school on the list, tying with Cornell, Rice and Notre Dame for the 15th spot. Florida, which tied for 50th in the country, was the only other SEC school inside the top 50.
Mississippi State, which was tabbed at No. 176, was the lowest-finishing SEC university. Below is the complete list of where each league school was ranked:
