Seimone Augustus receives hero’s welcome as LSU unveils statue for all-time great
One of the greatest LSU athletes in any sport was honored Sunday.
The school unveiled a statue of former Tigers women’s basketball star Seimone Augustus, who attended Sunday’s ceremony and was on hand to take in LSU’s game with Auburn in front of a huge home crowd.

Biggest crowd I've ever seen for an #LSU statue unveiling for Seimone Augustus.
She'll be introduced on the court between the first and second quarters of the Auburn game.
About to tip off. Best crowd of the year in here, about 8,000-9,000, without many students.— Scott Rabalais (@RabalaisAdv) January 15, 2023
Augustus scored more than 2,700 points in her 4 years with the Tigers from 2002-06, a run that included 3 trips to the Final Four.
She was then selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx and averaged better than 15 points per game over a 15-year professional career. She was also a part of 4 WNBA championship teams.
Additionally, Augustus was a member of golf medal winning USA basketball teams in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympic Games.
