Sugar Bowl officials and representatives for the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana made the announcement on Wednesday that the Sugar Bowl will be postponed a full 24 hours following a terrorist attack in the early hours of the morning.
The attack, which led to the deaths of 15+ people (reported) after a car plowed into a crowd on the corner of Canal and Bourbon street, was officially labeled as terrorism by the FBI Wednesday morning. During the same press conference that announced the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, Louisiana senator John Kennedy insisted the decision to postpone the game is a wise one, as there are currently too many unknowns surrounding the active crime scene.
These unknowns include the location and status of potential conspirators with the now deceased suspect. The FBI insisted during the conference that it does not believe the attacker was solely responsible and is asking the public for information as of Wednesday afternoon.
As for the game, kickoff between Georgia and Notre Dame is now set for 8:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, Jan. 2.
