By now, you’re probably aware of how important the Alabama-LSU matchup is for both teams. The Crimson Tide looks to continue its path to a national championship while the Tigers attempt to upset the nation’s No. 1 team and climb their way back into contention.
But there’s an added incentive beyond the 2016 season: recruiting.
That’s right. Recruiting is a 24/7, 365-day job for college football programs. But Saturday’s matchup will be even more crucial for both teams’ respective classes with several top targets expected to be in attendance.
According to Scout.com, 5-star wide receiver Devonta Smith, 4-star linebacker Chris Allen, and 4-star offensive tackle Adrian Ealy will all be attendance from the 2017 national recruiting class, as well as top-ranked QB Trevor Lawrence, as well as 4-star defensive back commitments Kelvin and Nadab Joseph from the 2018 class.
The website also speculates that 5-star prospect Cam Akers may also be in attendance. Akers ranks as the No. 2 running back and No. 6 overall prospect for the 2017 class.
Obviously, these would all count as official visits for LSU, but with every prospect excluding Ealy still considering Alabama, another dominant performance could help the Tide’s chances as well.
Beyond those in attendance, Saturday’s game will likely be one that many top recruits pay close attention to with both programs on pace to sign top 5 classes once again.
