Shane Beamer discusses injury to WR Juice Wells, timeline for potential return to action
Shane Beamer spoke at the podium on Saturday and gave out an injury update regarding WR Juice Wells. The interview was posted on social media.
Wells started his college career at James Madison. In his first season with South Carolina last year, he led the team with 928 yards receiving and also had 6 touchdowns.
Wells was not able to scrimmage all week. Beamer said that Wells won’t be back next week either. However, Wells assured Beamer that the wideout will be ready by the season opener.
“Juice Wells didn’t scrimmage today. He won’t be back next week, but optimistic that he’ll be back for Game 1, knowing how Juice attacks things. He’s got a little bit of a lower-body injury that he’s dealing with right now. Nothing long term. Just some things that he’s gotta get a hold of. He assures me that he’s playing Game 1 and knowing him he will.”

Wells is a key piece of the Gamecocks’ receiving corps. South Carolina will definitely miss his presence if Wells isn’t able to play against the Tar Heels.
South Carolina and North Carolina face off on Sept. 2. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
