Shane Beamer likes what he sees in new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains thus far.

“Very pleased. First of all, it starts with Spencer [Rattler] and the way that Spencer’s playing. Dowell has a lot to do with that — just those 2 guys have in the way that they’ve connected and work together,” Beamer told reporters on Tuesday.

Beamer brought Loggains aboard this year after 2 years as the tight ends coach at Arkansas. Loggains previously served as offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and Chicago Bears in the NFL from 2016 to 2020.

“Dowell, obviously, with the fact that he’s been … a coordinator in the NFL, his understanding of just offense, defense, every position on offense has been really good, too,” Beamer said. “Because he understands what he wants at the receiver position and the offensive line position and the tight end position and quarterback, running back — you name it.”

“So, he’s got a great feel for all of those positions, and I think he’s done a great job of putting our players in positions to be successful,” Beamer continued.

South Carolina has a strong offense this season under Loggains with 28.8 points and 415.8 yards per game. Rattler already has 1,242 yards passing for 7 TDs, and wide receiver Xavier Legette has emerged with 27 catches for 556 yards and 3 TDs.

“We have a lot of carry over each and every week. We have new game plans, specific things each week, and I think he and the entire offensive staff have done a really good job of putting together a plan each week that gives us the best chance to be successful based on the team we’re playing but then also what we do well,” Beamer said.
