Shane Beamer and South Carolina are looking for a pair of wins to reach bowl eligibility, and it starts with Kentucky this week.
The Wildcats are battle tested up to this point, playing some of the top teams in the SEC. Beamer recognizes that the Wildcats’ tough schedule will help them in this game.
“You know what you’re facing when you face a Mark Stoops team,” Beamer said in his press conference on Tuesday. “Physical, competitive, extremely well coached, and this team is no different. They’ve played some really good teams here over the last 5 weeks, arguably the 4 best teams in our league, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Missouri.”
For Kentucky, its offense starts on the ground with Ray Davis. The running back has been electric all year, and Beamer knows slowing him and the Wildcats’ offense down will be a challenge.
“Obviously offensively it starts with the run game and the way they’re able to run the football,” Beamer said. “Big offensive line, accurate quarterback who can make all the throws and then a really talented group of receivers and tight ends that we’ve seen the last couple years.”
On the defensive side, Kentucky has managed well for the most part and does a good job of shutting offenses down with its physicality.
“Definesively, Coach Stoops is a defensive guy,” Beamer said. “They do a fantastic job, well coached. Don’t necessarily try to trick you with what you do. They’re very good at and they know how teams try to attack it.”
South Carolina and Kentucky will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
