Shane Beamer has dealt with a plethora of injuries this year, including Juice Wells.
Beamer updated the status of many injured players at Tuesday’s media availability. Trai Jones won’t play against Jacksonville State. Wells was listed among those who were questionable ahead of Saturday.
Beamer did say that Wells is slowly getting closer to a return to action. The South Carolina head coach didn’t commit to saying if Wells could play Saturday.
“Trai Jones won’t play, he’ll be out. Everyone else is questionable, those guys who got banged up last week all did a little bit at practice today. Some more than others,” said Beamer. “As far as Juice, he’s getting closer and closer. I don’t know if he’ll be ready for Saturday, I’m not quite ready to rule him out. There’s nobody that I can sit here today and say is definitely out.”
Wells has been battling injuries all season. He has played in three games for the Gamecocks so far. Wells led the team with 928 yards receiving in 2022.
It would certainly give the offense a boost if Wells were able to suit up. The team has looked to Xavier Legette in Wells’ absence.
The Gamecocks face Jacksonville State at home up next.
