Shemar Stewart says he was ‘shunned’ in Miami after signing with Texas A&M

Shemar Stewart has undoubtedly circled Sept. 9 on his calendar for a while. Texas A&M’s schedule has Stewart returning home to Miami on Saturday.
Stewart played for Monsignor Pace High School in Miami Gardens, less than 5 miles away from Hard Rock Stadium, where the Miami Hurricanes play their home games. As a recruit, Stewart was rated 5-stars, the No. 1 player in the state of Florida and No. 9 prospect overall in the Class of 2022 by the 247Sports Composite. He chose Texas A&M over Miami and others, a decision that didn’t go over well back home.
In a Monday media opportunity, Stewart recalled being shunned after picking the Aggies over the Canes. He said there was a time he envisioned himself playing for The U.
Shemar Stewart: “Being a highly-rated player out of Miami, everybody expects you to play for the home team. When I committed (to Texas A&M), everybody was mad at me and kind of shunned me for a little while.”

Shemar Stewart on Miami: “I always wanted to go there. When I was first getting recruited, I wanted to go there. I had to choose a different route in the end. I still have a good amount of friends on that team, but come Saturday, we ain’t friends anymore.”

Stewart had 5 tackles and a quarterback hurry in Texas A&M’s win over Miami last year in College Station. This season, Stewart is looking to record his first tackle. He had a pass breakup in Texas A&M’s Week 1 win.
The Aggies and Canes are set to play at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, with the game airing on ABC.
