Skill or scheme: Video of all systems failing on Vanderbilt sack

Playing quarterback in the SEC is difficult enough, let alone when you’re a true freshman — even if you’re the son of a former NFL head coach.

Kyle Shurmur likely learned that lesson Saturday against Houston.

Skill or scheme examined the many ways this particular third-down play broke down. The issues started with the play-call and put Shurmur in a no-win situation, and not enough experience to know how to fix it.

Bottom line: Some blitzes are disguised, and quarterbacks are surprised.

This was not that, and there was plenty of blame to go around.

Granted the play clock was winding down, but a quarterback won’t last long taking too many shots like this.
