My Picks for Thursday Night Football
Thank goodness for this promotion from Sleeper, because the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Patriots and Steelers is ugly. Mitchell Trubisky vs. Bailey Zappe? That’s not fit for primetime television. But now that each entry gives you a chance at the $100,000 first-place prize, it’s worth at least having 1 contest in play tonight.
Mitchell Trubisky, Pittsburgh: Less than 180.5 passing yards
If the Steelers can manage to go up 7-0 in this game, expect them to take the air out of the ball. The Patriots have shown no signs of having a competent offense this year, so expect Pittsburgh to protect a lead once it scores. A steady diet of RBs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren should be in the cards tonight, which will prevent Trubisky from throwing for 181+ yards.
Bailey Zappe, New England: Less than 155.5 passing yards
Zapper took 100% of the snaps at quarterback last week for the Patriots and only threw for 141 yards against the Chargers. The Patriots put up exactly 0 points with Zappe at the helm in the 6-0 loss. Zappe didn’t throw any interceptions in last week’s game, but that was mostly because the Pats’ coaches didn’t put him in a position to make many dangerous throws. If he’s going to have a shot at surpassing 155 passing yards tonight, he’s going to have to make some riskier throws, and the Steelers will be waiting to take advantage of that.
DeVante Parker, New England: Less than 3.5 receptions
Getting separation from defenders isn’t Parker’s strong suit. In fact, the only thing he really does well as a receiver is make contested catches. But with Zappe throwing him the ball tonight, I don’t expect him to be put in a position to succeed. He had 4 catches against the Chargers last week, but that was his first 4-catch game since Week 2. Expect him to struggle again tonight against a tougher Steelers defense.
