Citing allegations against former assistant coach Chuck Person, the Auburn Tigers men’s basketball team announced a self-imposed postseason ban for the 2020-21 season on Sunday.

Losing their five primary starters from last season, Samir Doughy, J’Von McCormick, Daniel Purifoy, and Austin Wiley, all of whom graduated, and Isaac Okoro’s decision to declare early for the National Basketball Association Draft, head coach Bruce Pearl’s squad is projected by many to finish in the middle of the pack in the Southeastern Conference.

Even with expectations lower for a team that posted an abbreviated 25-6 (12-6 SEC) record a year ago and reached the Final Four in 2018-19, fans have still been having fun with the news on social media.

Some have brought up what Auburn’s punishment could mean for Will Wade’s LSU Tigers, who have been broiled in recruiting-related controversy of their own.

The Tigers are scheduled to open their campaign against the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, in the Fort Myers Tip-Off on Thanksgiving at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
