The South Carolina athletic department will be coordinating an effort to collect cash donations for flood relief organizations at Saturday’s game at Williams-Brice Stadium.
The Gamecocks host Vanderbilt at 4 p.m.
Earlier this month, heavy rains led to heavy flooding in the state of South Carolina. Columbia was among the places hit hardest by the floods.
All proceeds will be split equally between the United Way of the Midlands, the American Red Cross, the SC Flood Relief Fund at Central Carolina Community Foundation and the USC Flood Recovery Fund for Faculty, Staff and Students, which has been set up as part of the USC Family Fund.
Funds will be collected at the stadium entrances. The gates open at 2 p.m. and the collections will continue until the start of the game at 4 p.m. Donations will be collected in red kettles donated by the Salvation Army.
“The athletics department is appreciative of the efforts of these organizations to get our state back on its feet,” Gamecock athletics director Ray Tanner in a statement. “We’ve been through tremendous adversity but the people of South Carolina are resilient and have put their best foot forward in helping others impacted by the floods.”
The South Carolina athletic department will honor first responders of the Midlands at halftime. The Gamecocks will also recognize flood relief efforts by South Carolina students, as well as the LSU and Vanderbilt athletic departments, during the game.
