South Carolina’s football team returned home Sunday to a massive flood in Columbia, S.C.
More than a foot of rain fell Saturday night, according to The State newspaper. Portions of local interstates are being closed and emergency shelters are being set up to help residents stay safe. The university has already announced that classes are canceled on Monday.
Coach Steve Spurrier discussed the dire situation on his weekly teleconference.
“Hopefully these floodwaters will get out of here ASAP and we can get our city back to normal,” Spurrier said Sunday.
Twitter was filled with photos of swollen creeks, flooded roads and stranded cars.
Former Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia tweeted out words of encouragement to those impacted by the flooding:
Y'all be safe out there. These pics y'all are sending are insane.
