South Carolina continued building its first recruiting class with Will Muschamp offering and receiving a commitment from local receiver Diondre Champaigne.

Champaigne is an unrated wide receiver by Rivals, but racked up some impressive stats capped off with a state championship win for Fort Dorchester played at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Champaigne racked up 1,212 yards on 54 catches with 16 touchdowns this season.

“Me and my mom, we sat down this morning and we were feeling real good about South Carolina,” Champaigne told The Columbia (S.C.) State. “She liked how the recruiting process went and how they came at me. She likes Coach Muschamp a lot. I was waiting on a big offer and I finally got it.”

This is the first big-time offer Champaigne received. His other offers came from East Carolina and UMass. South Carolina is certainly the biggest name and Champaigne jumped at the chance.

Obviously he has a long way to go to make the roster and make an impact. But Muschamp clearly saw something in him to extend an offer and make him one of the first recruits he has brought in to Columbia.
