South Carolina has continued its success on the recruiting trail as of late, most recently reeling in 4-star safety and in-state prospect J’zavien Currence.

The Class of 2026 defensive back out of South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina, committed to the Gamecocks on Thursday. He is currently ranked as the No. 8 safety in the class in the 247Sports Composite. He’s also listed as the No. 98 overall player in the class and the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of South Carolina.

Here’s his announcement:

Currence holds offers from a number of prestigious programs across the nation including Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan and Florida, on top of several others.

He’s not the only in-state prospect the Gamecocks have had success in landing, either. Really, they’ve been on a tear there.

South Carolina has also gained commitments from 3-star wide receiver Jordon Gidron of Ridge View High School (2025), 4-star wide receiver Malik Clark out of Rock Hill High School and 3-star tight end Jamel Howse of Newberry High School (2026).

South Carolina is up to 5 commits in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The class currently ranks No. 6 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Here are some highlights from one of Currence’s recent high school games:
