South Carolina has secured another solid commitment via the transfer portal.

On Wednesday night, former Pittsburgh Panther DeAndre Jules announced his intention to transfer to the Gamecocks. 2024 will be Jules’ last season of collegiate eligibility.

Jules played in 4 seasons for the Panthers. His best season came in 2023, as the big defensive lineman collected 24 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. Overall, Jules collected 36 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks over 4 seasons with the Panthers.

Even though the Panthers had a disappointing season, the team excelled at getting pressure on opposing QBs. Thanks to Jules and the defensive front, the Panthers finished No. 35 in the nation in sacks in 2023. The team also sported the No. 66 run defense.

The defensive lineman should be a massive upgrade to the Gamecocks’ defensive front. The Gamecocks struggled to generate pressure in 2023, finishing No. 100 in sacks. Fortunately, Jules can help out in the pass rush and against the run.

The Gamecocks now have 5 players who have committed via the transfer portal: running back Raheim “Rocket” Sanders, running back Oscar Adaway III, wide receiver Jared Brown, wide receiver Jayden McGowan, and Jules.

The Gamecocks will kick off the 2024 season on Aug. 31 against Old Dominion.
