After nearly committing to South Carolina as part of the Gamecocks’ 2015 recruiting class, North Carolina RB Ty’Son Williams could play for the Gamecocks after all and has applied to transfer to the SEC school.
According to The State, Williams, a native of Sumter, South Carolina, wanted to move back to his home state:
“I wanted to transfer closer to home and I feel like this will be the best fit,” Williams said. “North Carolina is a great school and a great program, but I want to be closer to family.”
“I’m going to use the GI Bill to pay for my first year,” Williams said noting his mother was just recently promoted to the rank of major by the Army. So, if he’s accepted to school, his plan is to walk on the football team and redshirt in 2016 with the hopes of going on scholarship for 2017.
Williams, a former four-star recruit, ran for 57 yards on 19 carries for the Tar Heels in 2015.
