South Carolina reportedly interested in offensive coordinator within the SEC

South Carolina may be getting ready to poach a new offensive coordinator from inside its own conference, according to a report from 247Sports’ Ole Miss Spirit.
The Gamecocks and head coach Will Muschamp are reportedly interested in Ole Miss offensive coordinator Phil Longo to take over with the same position in Columbia.
South Carolina fired Kurt Roper as its OC earlier this week.
Former Ole Miss co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dan Werner also could be a candidate for the South Carolina opening, sources told OM Spirit.
“Longo is set to enter the second year of a two-year deal at Ole Miss reportedly worth $1.3 million,” the article noted. “He reportedly earned $600,000 in 2017 and that salary is expected to be increased to $700,000 for 2018.”
Longo’s offense at Ole Miss, despite all the drama surrounding the program, was spectacular this season.
The Rebels ranked 21st in the nation in total offense, averaging over 462 yards per game. Their passing offense was No. 10 in the country, as it averaged over 328 yards per game.
Ole Miss averaged 32.8 points per game.
