Spencer Rattler was doing all the right things for South Carolina in its clash against Florida on Saturday.

But, one costly interception from the senior quarterback led to the Gamecocks’ tough 41-39 loss to the Gators.

The Gamecocks had the ball with 47 seconds left in regulation, enough time for the team to make an attempt at some go-ahead points.

Rattler started the potential winning drive with an 11-yard pass to Dakereon Joyner.

South Carolina’s threat immediately stopped there, as Rattler threw the ball right into Gators sophomore safety Miguel Mitchell’s hands to end the game.

From South Carolina’s 36-yard line with 25 seconds left and three timeouts to spare, Rattler said he could have done a better job protecting the football, per SportsTalk..

“(It) won’t happen again,” Rattler said at the post-game conference. “I was trying to make a play.”

Despite the pick, Rattler put up some impressive numbers. He was 23-of-30 on completions for 313 passing yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, Rattler ran for 46 yards on seven carries.

Rattler praised South Carolina’s offensive line performance, noting its great effort.

With the game abruptly out of reach for South Carolina, Rattler noted that as a group, the Gamecocks “might just have to do more.”

“There were some things that we could have done better to help (the offensive line) out,” Rattler said.

The Gamecocks, who fell to 2-4 on the season, will face Missouri at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday on the SEC Network.
