One successful college football coach has already hung up his whistle, while another one will soon join him in retirement.
When Steve Spurrier stepped down as South Carolina’s head coach on Oct. 12, Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer sent him flowers. So on Nov. 1, when Beamer announced that he would retire after this season, Spurrier returned the favor – and sent the Hokies’ coach an apparently identical bouquet.
Spurrier has a career record of 228-89-2. He has not said whether or not he will coach again, but it’s widely believed that he has unofficially retired.
Beamer’s record is currently 276-143-4.
