Squirrel White shares expectations for Georgia defense, Neyland Stadium crowd
Squirrel White has been Tennessee’s best receiver so far this season.
But, the sophomore wide out is expecting a tough test against Georgia’s defense this weekend, including the “good coverage” that the defensive line brings to the table.
“They’re very tough. They rally to the ball,” White said, noting the Bulldogs’ defensive status as No. 1 in the country.
So far this season, White has 49 catches for 609 yards and two scores. He is averaging 12.4 yards per catch for the Volunteers.
White’s fellow receiver and teammate, senior Ramel Keyton, has 28 catches for 469 yards and a team-leading four touchdown receptions.
No. 2 Georgia is coming off a 52-17 win over Ole Miss this past weekend, while No. 13 Tennessee is looking to bounce back from a 36-7 loss to Missouri.
White is hoping fans will pack Neyland Stadium and be “loud and support” the Volunteers.
“It’ll be a key factor for us,” White said.
Georgia is 27-23-2 against Tennesee in the teams’ all-time series. The Bulldogs have won 6 straight against the Vols. The last time Tennessee beat Georgia was by a 34-31 score on Oct. 1, 2016.
The programs’ first-ever meeting was on Nov. 11, 1899. Tennessee won that game, 5-0.
Kickoff between Georgia and Tennessee is set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday on CBS.
“We just have to come out and play our game,” White said.
