Stanford reportedly hires coach from FCS powerhouse to replace David Shaw

Stanford has reportedly settled on its next head coach to replace David Shaw.
Stanford has hired Sacramento State’s Troy Taylor as its next head coach, Stewart Mandel of The Athletic reported. Taylor led Sacramento State to its first undefeated regular season before losing in the FCS quarterfinals on Friday. Taylor succeeds David Shaw, who stepped down last month.
Taylor is a well-known name in Northern California. He earned his third Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year award this season in addition to being named AFCA Region 5 FCS Coach of the Year this week, the Sacramento Bee reported. Taylor led the Hornets to a 12-0 record and the No. 2 national FCS ranking heading into Friday night’s quarterfinal playoff game against Incarnate Word of San Antonio. The Hornets fell 66-63 in that game.
Former NFL coach Jason Garrett was reportedly another top candidate, but he released a statement earlier this week that suggested he would remain with NBC Sports.
Taylor has led Sacramento State to a 30-7 record and has 2 main priorities: to graduate and to play fun football.
